Miyazaki – Zao-Fox Village is located in the prefecture of Miyazaki Shiroishi-shi. Here is the only zoo in the world that preserve fox. There are 6 different breeds of fox inside the village and all of them is preserved in a natural way that even allow them to roam freely amongst the human visitors. Visitors can touch and feed the fox under certain safety conditions. Besides fox, there are some other animals like rabbit, horse, or sheep. So, this place is really suitable for family gathering.

Every year from Mach to May is the high-reproduction period for fox, so tourists have chance to hug the new-born fox baby. In additional, there is hug-fox area where visitors are able to hug some gentle foxes under the instructions of the staff. However, as fox is a kind of carnivore, you have to be very careful when you are walking along the wild area of the village. Please don’t touch the foxes as you like or even they look adorable.

Access: From Tokyo, take the JR Tohoku Shinkansen (bullet train) all the way to Shiroishi-Zao station (approx. 1 hour 50 minutes). You can also catch the bullet train in the same direction at Sendai, or take the local JR train direct to Shiroishi station (approx. 45 minutes). From both stations, you will have to take either a taxi or shuttle bus to reach the Fox Village. Taxi fee is around 4000Yen for one way.
