“JR Sapporo” is the largest terminal in Hokkaido. There are various Rapid trains that allow visitors to access different cities of Hokkaido or to Chitose Airport. Also, most of the normal trains also stop here as one of the main station. “JR Sapporo” is said to be the city’s main railway station and the users here is the largest among others.

Spot – 1 – Odori Park

Odori Park (大通公園) is the broad median of Odori (“large street”) in the center of Sapporo, and extends 1.5 km from east to west that separating the city into north and south. It is selected as the “100 of Japanese Historical Avenue” with 92 types of trees including lilacs, elm, Taxus cuspidate. From April to October which is said to be the warm season of Hokkaido. So, there are some Corn-vendors selling roasted corn or steamed-corn ,and people can enjoy a walk under sunny day as well as the local-made corns.

There are many festivals or activities hold here every year, such as the Snow Festival in the winter, Lilac Festival in the spring, YOSAKOI Soran Festival and beer garden in the summer, and Autumn Festival, which brings together various Hokkaido cuisines, in the fall. For Lilac Festival, tourists can enjoy food and music surrounded by over 400 types of Lilac.

Access: All of Sapporo’s three subway lines intersect at Odori Subway Station, and the Odori Park is just beside it. Or you 10mins walk from south of JR Sapporo Station.

2. Hokkaido University – Ginkgo Avenue

Approximately 70 gingko trees grow on either side of the North 13th gate avenue of Hokkaido University. Each year in late autumn, the leaves on these trees change color to create a beautiful, 380-meter-long golden arch, attracting visitors from all around.

Access: Walking from Sapporo Station (7 mins), or take the Azabu-bound Nanboku Subway line at Sapporo Station and get off at the next stop, Kita 12-jo. It’s about a 10-minute walk from there to the university. Once you exit the station, follow the signs to the University.

3.JR Tower Observation Deck T38

JR Tower Observation Deck T38 is located inside JR Tower with 160meters above ground and offering great views even from its restroom. The observation deck, which offers a 360-degrees view of Sapporo night scenery, like Hokkaido University and Mt.Teine to the West, and the Sapporo Dome and central Sapporo, which is laid out as a grid, to the South.

Access: Right beside the Sapporo station. You need to buy the ticket at the 6th floor for accessing the Observation Deck.
